Scintillant Bioscience obtained images of dissociated somatosensory neurons and glia from mouse dorsal root ganglia that were stained with various cellular and sub-cellular markers. These markers help to identify cell types. They can also be used for high-content imaging/screening and can be used in conjunction with other imaging modalities, including calcium imaging.

Scintillant Bioscience obtained calcium-imaging traces for human cortical neurons derived from iPSCs. Each trace represents the response of a single neuron as hundreds of neurons were monitored simultaneously. Selected traces represent a small subset of the diversity of neuronal responses to these stimuli. High extracellular potassium was applied at regular intervals to depolarize the neurons. 4-Aminopyridine (4-AP) is a broad-spectrum antagonist of K-channels, which amplified responses to depolarization and also caused calcium influx in some neurons. NMDA and a co-agonist D-serine were applied to elicit responses from NMDA receptors. Notably, not all neurons responded to NMDA. All NMDA responses were blocked with slow reversibility by a known NMDA receptor blocker, conantokin-R.
